Chizhou is a famous cultural and tourism city with prestigious reputation.Endowed with abundant cultural and tourism resources, Chizhou houses more than 300 scenic spots, including one 5A-grade scenic area and 17 4A-grade scenic areas. Notable attractions here include Jiuhua Mountain, a World Geopark and one of China's Four Great Buddhist Mountains; Shengjin Lake, the only internationally important wetland in Anhui known as "China's Crane Lake"; Xinghua Village, hailed as the No.1 Poetic Village in China, the setting of Du Mu's famous line "Where can I find a tavern? A cowherd points to Xinghua Village far away"; and Guniujiang, reputed as "the last primitive forest in East China" and a "natural gene bank of animals and plants". The fossil remains of the Hualong Cave Man, the earliest ancient human in East Asia evolving into Homo sapiens dating back roughly 300,000 years, were discovered here. In 2025, the city received over 80 million tourist visits. Under its jurisdiction, Shitai County is reputed as "China's Most Beautiful Original Ecological Mountain Township" and listed among China's Top Counties for Eco-leisure Tourism.
